French President Emmanuel Macron was at the Shrine on Tuesday evening to celebrate Nigerian and African culture through arts.
Arriving at the Shrine and after soaking in the inimitable ambience of the home of Afro-beats, he said:
“I’m very happy to be here with you tonight,” as the crowd cheered him on.
He asked for everyone concerned to help build a new common narrative for the continent.
“You have to recognise the bad and negative pages of this history, but you have to move forward,” he continued as applause rang around him.
Macron had earlier in the day visited the Nation’s capital, where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also said he was happy to return to the country. In 2002, he worked as an intern in the French embassy in Nigeria.
The choice of venue shouldn’t be lost to many. Fela used his music as a tool to fight and ask for good governance.
