The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has stated that Lassa fever is still active in Edo, Ondo and Plateau state.
They said of the 21 states affected, 18 have exited the active phase, except for Edo, Plateau and Ondo states.
The other states are Ondo, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Anambra, Benue, Kogi, Imo, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Anambra, Benue, Kogi, Imo, Lagos, Taraba, Delta, Osun, Rivers, Gombe, Ekiti, Kaduna, Abia, Adamawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
All these states had at least one confirmed case of the fever.
The NCDC said 444 of the 2,042 cases were confirmed positive, 10 are probable, 1,588 negative and since the 2018 outbreak, there have been 111 deaths and 10 in probable cases with Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in confirmed cases at 25.0 per cent.
The latest figures cover the period between January 1, 2018 to June 24, 2018.
Lassa fever is becoming a concern in Nigeria.
Chief Executive Officer and National Coordinator of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said “There is an increasing global health focus on Lassa fever and the work we do is at the centre.”
He said the disease will be in Nigeria for some time because it is becoming widespread.
