Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Are Back In “By the sea”, Written And Directed by Angelina Jolie
The fact that Angelina Jolie-Pitt is used to personal attacks, combined with the fact that she’s the first female director her husband, Brad Pitt has worked with, isn’t painting a super female-friendly picture of Hollywood—but if anyone can change the industry’s sexist treatment of women, it’s her. And Jennifer Lawrence, obviously.
Both Pitts star in a new movie “By the Sea” where they play a depressed former dancer and her blocked novelist husband who often spy through a peephole on two lovers in the hotel room next door. Set in a quiet seaside town in France, it’s inspired by the deliberately paced European art films of the ’60s and ’70s, and tells the story of an American couple’s imploding marriage.
“By the Sea” is written, produced and directed by Ms. Jolie Pitt and represents the first time she and Brad have appeared on screen together since their 2005 spy thriller “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” The potential pitfalls of directing one’s real-life spouse aside, the movie is a risk in other ways.
In some scenes in the movie, Andelina had to get naked and she had this to say “There were lots of scenes I wanted to change or cut,” she said. “I realized it was going to be me [naked] in that bathtub. But I told myself, put all of that aside. Like, you can’t change or cut this scene because you’ve had a mastectomy, or because we’re married and people are going to analyze this or that. That would be cheating.”
