You might remember him as the producer behind such DRB LasGidi classics as “Selecta” and “3Kingz”, but UK-based Nigerian producer, songwriter and sound engineer GB has also worked with some of the biggest names in African music including Dr Sid, Shank and Falz.
After taking some time away from the scene to work on some solo projects, GB returns with a brand new single titled “Voodoo Lady” featuring Ripstar, who burst onto the scene circa 2010 – 2012 with underground hits including “Talking To The Hardest”, “Baby Mi” and “Been So Long” and his classic DJ Mighty Mike hosted Freestyle Sessions mixtape.
To be taken from his forthcoming producer mixtape Remixes and Goodmixes Vol. 1, “Voodoo Lady” is an eccentric and excellent tune from GB, with lush synths, head-bopping drums and an infectious bassline, as well as an exciting and unexpectedly versatile showing from Ripstar, who merges his usual rap shtick with a more rhythmic and melodious flow, to great effect.
Along with “Voodoo Lady”, GB also unveils his rather excellent mash-up remix of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” and “Gongo Aso” by 9ice. Fusing both acappella vocals from 9ice and Adele, and laying them over a GB-crafted instrumental which travels from Afrobeat to Hip-Hop to Pop and right back, this mash-up remix is a true testament to GB’s exceptional capabilities to create exciting music across a plethora of genres – and there’s more where that came from.
Divided into two parts, Remixes and Goodmixes Vol. 1 will be a mixture of original music from GB such as “Voodoo Lady”, and remixes of popular songs, of which his “Rolling In The Deep/Gongo Aso” remix is the first offering. The mixtape will cover a wide variety of genres, highlighting GB’s resounding production dexterities, as well as feature guest appearances from some of your favourite African and UK artists.
