Virtually nothing is left of the Ketu Plank Market. The fire that gutted the market yesterday, (Thursday, March 7) made sure of that.
When we visited the scene this morning, some of the traders were standing around in disbelief; still shocked and speechless and in no mood to talk to anyone. Others were seen crying and counting their losses. They refused talking to us.
Men of the Federal Fire Service, the Rapid Response Squad, the Police and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were still on the scene to control various activities.
We don’t know the cause of the fire yet, but from the reports we gathered, this is the second time such incident has happened in recent times. The first one happened in September 2011.
More than three buildings were affected by the fire: the Ifelodun Mosque, the Apostolic Church and another building beside them were affected.
As at the time of filing in this report and pictures (8:45a.m.), there is still no way of ascertaining what has been lost in terms of properties and money but the market was completely razed down.
