Iceland’s Prime Minister, Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson is facing a no confidence vote in Parliament following revelations by the #PanamaPapers.
Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson and his wife were revealed to have an investment account in the British Virgin Islands in an expose that has the left the world reeling. Gunnlaugsson is not the only politician named in the report with Russian President, Vladmir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Peroshenko also mentioned.
The opposition party has called for a vote which might very well see Gunnlaugsson leave his position as Prime Minister even as calls for his resignation gain traction. He has reacted to the ICIJ report in a statement and said,“As has been explained publicly, in establishing this company, the Prime Minister and his wife have adhered to Icelandic law, including declaring all assets, securities and income in Icelandic tax returns since 2008.”
