Yaba, Ojuelegba and its surrounding areas have witnessed traffic gridlocks since yesterday evening as hundreds of students of the Yaba College of Technology took to the streets in protest.
The cause of the protests has been ascertained to be the death of a female HND 2 student of Office & Technology Management Department yesterday.
The yet to be identified student reportedly fell ill during her departmental examination and was rushed to the school medical centre where there was no one around to attend to her.
She was taken to another hospital outside the school but was denied attention since there was no deposit of #30,000.
Her death after the medical center refused her medical attention her sparked outrage among Yabatech students and kickstarted the protest yesterday.
The protesting students vandalised the school’s medical center and the management of the institution asked students to evacuate the school campus indefinitely.
By morning, the students locked up all gates coming in and exiting the school premises saying the management can’t send them off until further notice.
The impasse is yet to be resolved.
