Pope Francis warned against the dangers of consumerism in his annual Christmas eve mass.
The mass was celebrated yesterday at the St Peters Basilica as he urged Catholics to remember the simple values which Christmas signifies.
“In a society so often intoxicated by consumerism and hedonism, wealth and extravagance, appearances and narcissism, this Child calls us to act soberly, in other words, in a way that is simple, balanced, consistent, capable of seeing and doing what is essential,” he said
He called for compassion and tolerance in his message and he is expected to deliver his “Urbi et Orbi” Christmas message today.
