An Indian teenager who was involved in a gang rape of a 23 year old woman in 2012 has been released.
The unnamed teenager had his identity protected because he was a minor at the time of the incident. Six men were involved in the gang rape which led to the death of the victim.
Having not been up to 18 at the time of the incident, the teenager was not tried as an adult. He spent his sentence in a juvenile home and has now been released today.
His release has prompted protests in India where rape is one of the biggest social issues.
An attempt was made to block his release as a motion was filed in court last week. A Delhi high court ruled in favor of his release and his identity will continue to be protected.
