Mohammed Emwazi better known as ‘Jihadi John’, the famous ISIL fighter who appeared in a hideous beheading of eight hostages appears to have been killed by an airstrike.
American and British officials claim that there is a “high degree of certainty” that he has been killed after a US airstrike targeted a vehicle he was believed to be travelling in in Syria.
Jihadi John has appeared in several beheading videos published by ISIL and British PM, David
Cameron called the airstrike “an act of self defense”.
A Press release from the Pentagon said, “US forces conducted an airstrike in Raqqa, Syria, on 12 November 2015 targeting Mohamed Emwazi, also known as Jihadi John.”
“Emwazi, a British citizen, participated in the videos showing the murders of US journalists Steven Sotloff and James Foley, American aid worker Abdul-Rahman [Peter] Kassig, British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning, Japanese journalist Kenji Goto, and a number of other hostages.
We are assessing the results of tonight’s operation and will provide additional information as and where appropriate.”
