Chad has declared a state of emergency around the Lake Chad region following attacks from Boko Haram militants in the region recently. The region which borders Nigeria, also faces similar problems with its Nigerian neighbors after a recent attack around the Lake Chad region left two people dead.
Despite setting up a regional Joint task force, the five nations fighting Boko Haram have not been able to crush the terrorist group.
Chadian authorities have decided to declare a state of emergency to enable restriction on movement around the region as well as to give the military sweeping powers to search and arrest suspects. It is hoped that such broad powers will contain terrorist attacks in the region.
