The anti rape movement received a significant moral boost today as a taxi driver was found guilty of rape. Shiv Kumar Yadav was charged with raping a 26 year old woman in Delhi in December.
He was reported to have driven the woman to a secluded area before raping her. Although he entered a plea of “not guilty” to the charges, he was convicted on three charges of rape, criminal intimidation and kidnapping.
Authorities in India are facing severe criticism for their inability to forestall rape incidents. In the past two weeks, there have been three incidents of rape in Delhi.
A four year old girl was raped, slashed and abandoned at a railroad track and just last week a five year old girl was also raped.
