Apparently, you can change your mind oh so many, many times. A Leader of the Ijaw people and one-time Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark has come out to say he will be leaving the PDP.In a discussion with Think Nigeria First Initiative, he said “Jonathan didn’t have the political will to fight corruption. He’s a gentleman. Drivers of yesterday are living in palatial buildings now under his government”.
Here’s our throwback for today, to when Chief Edwin Clark said he’s ready to die in the People’s Democratic Party, to when Jonathan was his favorite person, to when he could move mountains and write letters for him.
In an article on Information NG from 2013, Clark said: “It (National Dialogue) will certainly change everything in Nigeria. I think that this the greatest thing Mr. President has done in Nigeria. People had been looking at him as one who does not have the courage to do certain things but today he has proved his critics wrong.
He used his pen as a sword to reply Ex-Ex President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s open letter to Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Jonathan saw this coming and even said this in his address at the Thanksgiving service held in his honour at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja.
“Some people come to me and say ‘look at this person or that person, is he not your friend who benefited from you, has this person not benefited from your government ? Imagine what he is saying’? I often tell them that worse statements will come. If you take certain decisions, you should know that those close to you will even abandon you at some point. And I tell them that more of my so-called friends will disappear. When FW De Klerk took the decision to abolish minority rule in RSA, even his wife divorced him. I hope my wife will not divorce me. But that is the only decision that has made RSA to still remain a global player by this time. If we still had that minority rule there, by this time, nobody will be talking about RSA” – President Jonathan
Then the final blow came when the elder statesman said he believes Jonathan lacked the politcal will he needed to be president. We will like to refer you to this statement in an interivew 2013 –
Clark, who made this known in an exclusive interview he granted the Vanguard in Abuja, said that Mr. Jonathan had shamed his critics, who had previously berated him as lacking the political will to confront the nation’s woes.
