The Nigerian Army announced today that 200 Boko Haram militants surrendered today in the town of Banki, a village on the border of Cameroon.
The Nigerian Army had earlier announced that they it had recaptured Banki even in the army’s campaign to end the insurgency within the three month deadline issued by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Nigerian military insists that they are winning the war although the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau has refuted the Army’s recent claims.
Despite Boko Haram’s reported weakness, the group has hit a couple of soft targets in the past month even as the army keeps reporting victories and recapturing towns.
