The head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis held a mass in Havana today as part of his visit to Cuba and the United States. Pope Francis has gained a reputation as a “Pope of the poor” as a result of his simple lifestyle.
He visited three of the poorest countries in South America, and is the first Pope to ever visit those regions. The Pope’s visit comes on the heels of the restoration of relations between the United and Cuba.
America has reopened its embassy in Havana, marking the first time in 50 years that both nations are back on diplomatic terms. His visit began yesterday and continued with a mass at the Revolution square in Havana today.
Pope Francis spoke on the need for both countries to consolidate on the renewal of relations as well as “develop all its possibilities”.
