The African Union (AU) has announced the suspension of Burkina Faso from the organisation following a coup d’etat in the West African country.
The AU also decided to impose sanctions after the Presidential guard seized power and arrested the President as well as the Prime Minister.
The African Union also gave an ultimatum of 96 hours for the coup plotters to return power to President Michael Kafando and Isaac Zida.
Part of the statement read, “Council decides to suspend, with immediate effect, the participation of Burkina Faso in all AU activities”.
