The Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, who was swept to power after his Syriza Party made bold promises about putting an end to austerity measures has resigned.
The embattled Prime Minister has in the past months to broker a new bailoit with the Euro zone as debt ridden Greece defaulted on its loan repayment to European creditors.’
Alexis Tsipras has submitted his resignation and that of his cabinet to President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and has proposed elections be held on September 20.
His resignation comes after members of his own Syriza party voted against the bailout, and he told President Pavlopoulos “The present parliament cannot offer a government of majority or a national unity government,”.
