And so the much anticipated Lagos leg of the MTN Auditions finally came to an end.
With it ended the hopes of thousands of fame seeking music enthusiasts looking for a shot at the grand prize of N5m, a brand new SUV, a recording deal worth millions of Naira not to talk of the fame that comes from emerging as Nigeria’s hottest music prospect. They will have to wait another year for the opportunity.
For others, the auditions were a step closer to their dreams of becoming the next Iyanya or Chidinma. After conquering the Lagos auditions, they will have to square against other qualifiers from other cities for the ticket to MTN Project Fame Academy.
This year’s auditions saw a teeming crowd of wannabe superstars trooping to Ultima Studios for the auditions. A number of some of the aspirants had been turned down from the previous audition exercises held at Ibadan, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Accra.
Naturally, the Lagos auditions had a mix of everything. From the genuinely talented singers, some of whom got the nod to vie for the ticket to the MTN Project Fame Academy against the qualifiers from other audition locations, while others, talented though they were, simply did not impress the judges. There was also the cringe worthy singers, most of who really could not sing to save their life but year after year insist on being a part of the MTN Project Fame Experience.
Then, there was Henry Adim, a visually impaired singer who, though did not get on the list of qualifiers got some encouraging words from the judges, notably from Cobhmas Asuquo, himself a blind singer, songwriter and producer.
Indeed, the auditions for MTN Project Fame 2015 may have come and gone but the memories will surely linger.
Up next is the round of competitions where the qualifiers from Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Accra, Ghana will do vocal battle to determine who gets the nod to enter the MTN Project Fame Academy.
The overall winner of the competition will walk away with a grand prize of N5m, a brand new SUV and a recording deal worth millions of Naira.
The 1st runner up will get a saloon car and N3m. The 2nd runner up will be awarded a brand new saloon car along with N1m while the 3rd runner up will receive a cash prize of N1m.
