You know we at OSG love, love natural hair and so today we thought to focus on DIY’s. Yes Do-It-Yourself’ers get in here!!!
Some of us (Yes I also have natural hair) don’t just love to buy products. And honestly. it’s a good thing, just try to incorporate some products because they usually have some things that are lacking in the fruits and what-nots.
Naturalistas that like using conditioners before shampooing I don’t get the point. If you can just explain in the comment section I’d appreciate. I’d always recomend you prepooing and detangling, shampooing your hair, then conditioning/deep conditionin, then use a leave-in/moisturizing conditioner before styling your hair.
Mayonnaise, Egg Whites and Coconut Milk:
All you need is:
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup mayonnaise
egg whites from 1 egg
Directions:
Whip it all in a bowl, lather it onto your hair, focusing on the ends where you’ll likely have the most damage, and make sure to really coat all the strands of hair.
Slap on a shower cap, while you wait for the conditioner to work its magic. It needs to sit on your head for about 30 minutes.
It will drip, which is totally nasty {but worth it in the end!}, so I recommend wrapping your head in a wet towel.
Rinse really, really, really, well using LUKEWARM water. Hot water + egg whites = breakfast.
Aloe Vera Gel and Honey
This is especially for those who have Aloe vera plants everywhere around them and can’t seem to think of what to do with them. This simple recipe works wonders
What you need;
Aloe vera gel (preferably form the plant itself, not a bottle)
Honey
Directions:
Mix equal parts aloe vera and honey, then massage into your hair. Allow the mixture to sit for 15 minutes at least. Rinse hair thoroughly.
Bananas and Honey
You basically take a few really ripe bananas, puree them and put them on! This recipes works too, my hair feels awesome!
Ingredients:
2 or 3 ripe bananas
2 tbsp Honey
Directions:
Puree the banana completely, you can use the grinder of a blender if you don’t have a mixer and it is important if you don’t want particles in your hair and trust me, they don’t go away easy.
Pour the banana mixture into a glass or bowl.
With your hands, massage the banana puree into your hair.
Relax and wait 15 minutes before rinsing your hair thoroughly.
Avocado Pear, Olive Oil and Shea Butter
Avocados actually are rich in good fats leaving your hair super shiny, super manageable and totally light and airy!
Here’s what you need:
one avocado
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons shea butter
Directions:
Mix all that up, comb it through your gorgeous hair and cover with a shower cap. Wait for about 20 minutes while it penetrates deep into your hair follicles. rinse the conditioner out with tepid water. Shampoo {you don’t want to smell like avocado forever}, rinse, and you’re all set.
Coconut Milk, Avocado and Coconut Milk
Mash all ingredients on up and leave on for about 10 – 15 minutes for really deep conditioning!
Ingredients:
1 avocado
1 cup of coconut milk
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
Directions
Peel, pit, and mash your avocado. Add the coconut milk and coconut oil and mix until smooth. Work this conditioner through your hair (you can let it hang out for 10-15 minutes for deeper conditioning). Rinse!
One more tip: I love using honey for everything so you can mix it in to your DIY’s and let us know how it goes.
