Zambia will hold Presidential and Parliamentary elections on August 11 2016. Zambia’s current constitution allows the President to set the date for elections every five years.
President Edgar Lunga is expected to sign the constitutional amendment which has set the new election for August 11.
The tightly contested elections will be between the President’s ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party and Hichilema’s opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).
The constitutional amendments will also require candidates to win at least 50% votes before they are declared winners.
