YORUBA IS NOW THE LINGUA FRANCA IN MY HOUSE-SOUND SULTAN
A recent report by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation indicates that African languages on the continent are facing a serious threat of extinction within the next 20 years.
One of the contributing factors is that languages are dying as new generation arises. This is because the past generation did not deem it fit to teach the younger one about their cultural heritage.
Realizing his failure in this, Nigerian singer, Sound Sultan is retracing his steps. The father of three took to his social media page to lament neglecting his cultural heritage while ensuring his children are properly trained in how to speak excellent Queen’s English.
According to him, his native language, Yoruba has become the common language that would be spoken in his house.
I JUST REALISED WHILE I WAS FULFILLING THIS BIG DREAM OF BRINGING MY KIDS UP AS AJE BUTTERS WHO SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH ,THAT I HAVE FALLEN SHORT OF UPHOLDING MY DUTIES IN PASSING DOWN THE CULTURE THROUGH THE LANGUAGE OF YORUBA . …yoruba is now the lingua franca in my house!!!!
