Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has explained why he quit attending church 13 years ago, saying his relationship with God should not depend on a particular day.
The 66-year-old actor shared his views during a recent interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask. According to him, leaving the church did not mean he had turned away from his faith.
“God created me in His image. I stopped going to church 13 years ago because I was no longer finding it funny. Though I am a child of God,” he said.
Questioning the focus on Sunday worship, the veteran actor said he does not believe the Bible requires people to dedicate a specific day to God.
“My life is not orchestrated towards a particular day. There is no Sunday in the Bible. Without God, I will not be alive.”
Although he has stayed away from church for 13 years, Solade said his belief in God remains strong.
“I know God too well. If you get close to me, you will know that God lives in me,” he said.
The actor also spoke about his social life, revealing that he does not maintain close friendships or intimate relationships.
“I do not have a friend. I do not roll with anybody, but I move with the world because God has instructed me to do that for myself,” he said.
“I am loved by a lot of people, and I love a lot of people. But I do not have intimacy with people. It is good for me.”
On public speculation about his life, Solade said the attention he receives shows that people still consider him relevant.
