WHO Advises 12-Year Old Children And Over To Wear Masks

The World Health Organization (WHO) has advised children aged 12 and over to wear masks when a one-metre distance from others cannot be guaranteed and there is widespread transmission in the area. This was revealed in a document signed by WHO and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which has been uploaded on WHO website.

Speaking on whether children between six and 11 should wear masks, the World Health Organization states that it depends on a number of factors, including the intensity of transmission in the area, the child’s ability to use the mask, access to masks, adequate adult supervision and the interactions the child has with people with high risk of developing serious illness. WHO and UNICEF also advised that children aged five years and under should not be required to wear masks based on the safety and overall interest of the child.
