A video featuring controversial social commentator Martins Otse, often known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), harshly denouncing tribalism went viral on social media, sparking new discussions.

VDM, who was recently re-arraigned by the authorities on allegations of cyberbullying, responded to a tribal remark directed at Nigerian musician Davido in the widely shared video.

An X (formerly Twitter) user said in the post that Davido was “frolicking” with Igbos and implied that his affiliation with the Igbo community will ultimately result in treachery.

Responding with visible frustration, VDM stated:

“There are some tweets that you will put online, and we will find you at home and beat you because you are the one who wants to spoil Nigeria.”

He went on to describe the tweet as “very stupid”, emphasising that such divisive statements contribute to the ethnic tensions that continue to plague the country.

He questioned the mindset of Nigerian youth in 2025, saying:

“This is what Nigerian youths are doing in 2025? While your mates in China are leading in AI and boosting their economies, you’re online insulting tribes. When will you guys get tired?”

VeryDarkman urged young Nigerians to put aside their ethnic prejudice and concentrate on creating a united country, emphasising that tribalism continues to be a major obstacle to national progress and togetherness.
