The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to decide today on whether the 2015 general elections will hold on February 14, 2015 as earlier scheduled.
INEC is reportedly meeting with the representatives of all political parties in consultations to decide whether to go on with the February 14 date.
The National council of states held a meeting and invited Professor Attahiru Jega, the INEC chairman to grill him on INEC’s readiness for the elections. The primary concern about INEC’s readiness is hinged on its failure to distribute all the Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) in its possession.
Although rumors are rife that INEC has already decided to postpone the elections, they have responded through their twitter account that no decision has been made yet. This is despite unconfirmed reports that the Army has said that it cannot provide security as long as INEC retains the February 14 date.
