Ugo Ugochukwu Crowned 2026 FIA Formula 3 Champion

Ugo Ugochukwu 2026 FIA Formula 3 title glory has made history after the Nigerian-American secured the championship in Madrid. The 19-year-old clinched the drivers’ crown by finishing second in the final Feature Race at the Madring circuit.

Ugochukwu entered the decisive weekend behind Freddie Slater, who had led the championship for much of the season. However, a composed performance allowed the Campos Racing driver to overturn the deficit and claim the coveted title.

Tuukka Taponen won the final race, while Ugochukwu followed in second place to secure enough points for championship victory. His result also made Ugochukwu the first American driver to win the FIA Formula 3 Drivers’ Championship.

Born in New York, the young racer has Nigerian heritage and has represented the United States during his racing career. Ugochukwu joined Campos Racing for his second FIA Formula 3 campaign after competing for PREMA Racing during 2025. His rookie season produced two podium finishes, although he ended that championship campaign in 16th position.

This season brought a transformation as Ugochukwu emerged as one of the leading title contenders. He secured victories in Melbourne and the Silverstone Sprint while collecting crucial points throughout the championship.

Those results helped him maintain pressure on Slater before the title battle reached its decisive stage. Slater finished eighth in Madrid, leaving Ugochukwu with a 14-point advantage in the final standings. The achievement marks another milestone for a driver regarded as a promising future Formula One prospect.

Ugochukwu’s championship strengthens his credentials as he continues climbing through single-seater racing. The Nigerian-American racer has now added a major international title to his growing motorsport résumé.

For Ugochukwu, the 2026 FIA Formula 3 title represents the biggest achievement of his young racing career. His historic championship could provide momentum for the next stage of his journey toward Formula One.
