Trump Issues Executive Order Against TikTok, WeChat

Donald Trump, president of the United States of America has issued an executive order against the social media apps, TikTok and WeChat from operating in the United States in 45 days time if they refuse to be sold to the US companies.

According to the executive order signed by the Donald Trump, any transaction by any person, or with respect to any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, with ByteDance Ltd. is prohibited after 45 days.

TikTok has however threatened a legal action in the United States over Donald Trump’s order banning US companies and businesses from doing business with TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance.

According to TikTok, the Executive Order was issued “without any due process.” This was said in a statement released by TikTok which reads further, “For nearly a year, we have sought to engage with the US government in good faith to provide a constructive solution to the concerns that have been expressed. What we encountered instead was that the Administration paid no attention to facts, dictated terms of an agreement without going through standard legal processes, and tried to insert itself into negotiations between private businesses.

“We will pursue all remedies available to us in order to ensure that the rule of law is not discarded and that our company and our users are treated fairly โ€“ if not by the Administration, then by the US courts.”

Donald Trump has earlier threatened to ban TikTok in the United States, while Microsoft has publicly announced that it intends to acquire TikTok’s US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand business.
