The family of late Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has addressed rumours about the cause of her death. They urged the public to stop sharing false claims and respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Following news of Osoba’s death on Wednesday, several claims spread across social media and blogs. Some linked her death to her past battle with breast cancer. Others claimed she had been facing emotional or mental health challenges.

Family dismisses claims

However, the family rejected all the reports in a statement shared on Instagram. They said the stories were false and did not come from any authorised family source.

“On behalf of the family and loved ones of Temitope Osoba, we are deeply saddened by the spread of false and unverified reports concerning the passing of our beloved. At this difficult time, we wish to categorically state that the numerous claims circulating on social media and various blogs regarding the circumstances surrounding her death are false, speculative, and entirely unauthorised,” the statement reads.

Family asks for privacy

Meanwhile, the family appealed to the public and the media to stop spreading rumours. They said the false reports had added to their grief. They also urged people to respect their privacy while they mourn.

“We respectfully urge the public to refrain from sharing or promoting misinformation that only adds to the pain our family is already enduring. We kindly ask that everyone allow us the dignity, privacy, and time to grieve without the burden of unfounded rumours and sensational narratives.

“Should there be any information the family wishes to make public, it will be communicated through our official channels and by authorised representatives only. We ask the public and members of the media to rely solely on those official statements and to disregard all unverified reports.

“Finally, we sincerely appreciate the prayers, love, and support that have been extended to our family during this heartbreaking time. Thank you for respecting her memory and our family’s privacy.”
