Kabelo Thathe has clinched the Best Cinematography award at the AMVCA 12 for his striking visual work on “To Kill a Monkey”, a project that has continued to draw attention for how boldly it tells its story through the camera.

The movie carries a distinct visual mood, shaped by bold lighting choices, deliberate framing, and a camera style that leans into emotion rather than excess. Each scene feels carefully constructed, with the visuals doing a lot of the storytelling work, quietly building tension and drawing the audience deeper into the characters’ world.
For many viewers, it was the kind of visual storytelling that stays with you after the credits roll. Every frame felt intentional, building a world that felt raw, grounded, and emotionally charged without ever needing to say too much.
