Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff has survived an assassination attempt after gunmen opened fire on his car in Mumbai on Sunday, injuring his driver and another civilian.
The 36-year-old actor was leaving a football ground in the Juhu suburb when the attackers fired several shots at his vehicle. Shroff escaped unhurt.
Footage of the incident showed at least two men firing at close range towards the front passenger seat as the car moved slowly past a crowd.
Police arrest three suspects
Raj Tilak Roshan, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) for the Mumbai crime branch, said police had arrested three suspects aged 18, 22 and 22 over the shooting.
“Two accused are from Haryana, and one is from Bihar. Two of the three arrested assailants had fired five to six rounds at Tiger Shroff’s car. The motorcycle used by the accused was found in Mumbai’s Andheri area,” the DCP said.
Roshan said investigators had yet to establish the motive. Police also recovered no weapons from the suspects.
“No weapon was recovered from the three suspects. We are bringing them to Mumbai from Rajasthan. The motive behind firing on the actor is not yet ascertained.”
Shinde visits shaken actor
Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, visited Shroff on Sunday evening. He said the incident had left the actor “shaken”.
A photograph of Shroff with Shinde later went viral on social media. The image showed the actor shirtless, with bandages on his upper body. However, officials have not confirmed the nature of his injuries.
Union condemns attack
In a statement via X, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) condemned the shooting. The labour union alleged that attackers often target film personalities to spread fear and extort money.
“Film personalities are being deliberately targeted to create fear and to extort money. Gangsters have openly claimed responsibility in earlier cases, yet the networks behind them continue to operate. The attacks have not stopped, and the state machinery has failed to prevent them and to protect the people of the film industry. Today it is Tiger Shroff. We ask, with deep concern, who is next,” the statement reads in part.
The association urged the government to provide strict security for Shroff and his family. It also called for firm action against those responsible for the attack.
