The controversial internet discussion surrounding billionaire businessman Obi Cubana, whose actual name is Obinna Iyiegbu, has been addressed by social critic Solomon Buchi.
When Cubana released a picture of his real son, Alex, and publicly denied allegations made by his adopted son, Chidi, designating him as his legal next of kin, the debate started. Reactions to the gesture were not uniform on social media.
The businessman was attacked by many Nigerians who questioned the extent of his love for the adopted child and accused him of cruelly excluding Chidi.
The announcement’s public nature was seen by some as disrespectful and inconsiderate.
Some, however, defended Cubana’s choice, claiming that Chidi might have gone too far. Solomon Buchi commented on the broader discussion that the incident generated.
Buchi was disappointed by Cubana’s strategy, saying he had anticipated a more considerate answer.
He highlighted that an adopted child should be treated with the same love and respect as a biological child since they are now a member of the family in every way.

“Obi Cubana could have easily asked him to take the post down, but he decided to publicly remind his adopted son of “his place”. Don’t adopt children if you will not see and treat them like your blood.”
“I’ve seen Nigerian men defend Obi Cubana, claiming that the adopted son should have known his place. “His place” doesn’t exist because he’s his father’s son.
“Adoption means legally taking another child as yours, so an adopted son should have ALL the rights and privileges of a SON.”
