In what was billed to be the most mouth watering contest of the Australian Open, World Number One Serena Williams squared up with old rival Maria Sharapova in the Quarter Finals.

In an already familiar rivalry, Serena’s red hot form saw many tag her as favorite to advance to the semi-final.

Serena did it in style, dumping Sharapova out of the Australian Open in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

It was Serena’s 18th career win over Sharapova and there’s no gainsaying that Serena is the favorite to win this year’s Australian Open.
