US actress Selma Blair has been arrested after allegedly biting a flight attendant, punching another and trying to open a plane door during a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York City.
The ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Cruel Intentions’ star was detained at John F. Kennedy International Airport late Sunday after the plane landed. Authorities said reports had emerged of a passenger behaving violently.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blair allegedly tried to open the aircraft door mid-flight before attacking two cabin crew members. The incident reportedly left at least two crew members injured.
The 54-year-old actress also allegedly attacked a police officer and a nurse while being taken to hospital.
Representative cites medical emergency
A representative for Blair said a medical emergency led to the alleged incident.
“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” the representative said.
“Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”
A federal judicial source said the FBI issued a summons accusing Blair of assault aboard the aircraft. Authorities have not set a date for the federal case, which concerns the alleged assault on the flight.
A Delta spokesperson said the airline “has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first”.
Blair’s previous flight incident
The latest incident recalls a 2016 episode when staff removed Blair from a plane on a stretcher after an outburst during a flight.
“I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret,” she told Vanity Fair after the incident.
In her 2022 memoir, Blair also wrote about biting several celebrities, including Kate Moss. She described some of the incidents as happening when she had been drinking alcohol.
Actress speaks about multiple sclerosis
Blair revealed her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2018. The condition affects the central nervous system.
Since then, she has spoken publicly about living with MS and supported advocacy efforts to raise awareness of the disease.
