Samsung Electronics has unveiled its new Galaxy Tab S12 series at higher prices than previous models, alongside the SmartTag 3 item tracker with improved precision and longer battery life.
The new tablet range includes the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, priced at $1,399, and the Galaxy Tab S12+, which costs $1,200. Both prices are $100 higher than their predecessors.
Galaxy Tab S12 gets a brighter display
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra has a 12.6-inch display and measures 5.1 millimetres thick. The S12+ also features a 12.6-inch screen.
Both models offer 1,600-nit peak brightness, a 120-hertz refresh rate and IP68 dust and water resistance.
The brighter display marks a major upgrade for the S12+. Its predecessor reached about 650 nits.
Samsung has also given the Ultra additional camera and connectivity features. It comes with an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera alongside a 13-megapixel main sensor.
The Ultra also supports Wi-Fi 7, while the S12+ supports Wi-Fi 6E.
Both tablets use a 3-nanometer MediaTek processor that delivers modest gains in performance and graphics. Samsung includes its S Pen with both models, while customers must buy the keyboard separately.
The company offers a simple book-cover keyboard and a “pro” version with a full-size trackpad.
Samsung is also including extended trials for Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Notability. Buyers will also get a six-month trial of Google AI Pro.
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and S12+ will go on sale October 7 in dark grey and light silver.
SmartTag 3 gets longer battery life
Samsung also introduced the SmartTag 3, its latest item tracker. The new model is 35% smaller and 33% lighter than its predecessor.
Its power-saving mode can deliver up to 790 days of battery life from a replaceable CR232 coin battery. The previous model offered up to 700 days.
The SmartTag 3 uses Samsung’s device network instead of Google’s Find My Hub. Other Samsung devices can therefore help locate a missing tracker.
Samsung is also introducing accessories for people who use the tracker with pets, luggage and other items.
The SmartTag 3 will cost $30 for one unit or $100 for a four-pack. It will launch in early November.
