Leicester City’s forward, Riyad Mahrez has won the Professional Footballers Association Player (PFA) of the year award for the 2015/2016 season.
Mahrez has been instrumental in Leicester’s excellent season as they have defied preseason expectations to sit on top of the log and firmly within view of winning the Barclays Premier League title. His contribution to his team’s cause have been 17 goals and 11 assists.
Leicester took another important step towards the title with an emphatic 4-0 win over Swansea City on Sunday afternoon with Mahrez getting on the scoresheet.
Mahrez was named player of the year ahead of Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, teammates Ngolo Kante and Jamie Vardy as well as West Ham midfielder Dmitri Payet.
Tottenham’s 20 year old midfielder, Dele Alli has also won the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) young player of the year for the season.
Mahrez was also included in the PFA team of the year alongside his teammates Ngolo Kante and Jamie Vardy.
