India has established itself as one of the smartphone capitals in the world and a large populations means that it is unlikely that India’s smartphone market will go under anytime soon.
An Indian company, Ringing Bells, has announced plans to launch the world’s cheapest smartphone, called the ‘Freedom 251’ tomorrow. With just a third of Indians owning smartphones, the market is large enough for new players to steal a large chunk of the market. The ‘Freedom 251’ is expected to retail at just $7.
The smartphone is set for launch tomorrow and it will surely be interesting to see if the Freedom 251 will win over low income earners. The Indian government supports local manufacturing and has seen some major brands shift their assembly plants to India.
