Popular Nollywood actor, Nonso Diobi has opened up about how his physical resemblance to veteran actress Hilda Dokubo played a pivotal role in securing his first major break in the Nigerian film industry.

Diobi shared that during an audition, Dokubo spotted him from a distance and, impressed by their striking resemblance, recommended to the director that he be cast as her brother in the film.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Nollywood Hardcore podcast, Diobi recalled, “Let me take you back to the story of how I landed my first movie role. I was at an audition when I began hearing people call my name from afar. As I got closer, Hilda Dokubo looked at me and said, ‘This young man looks like me. He can play my brother.’]

“That was how I finally landed my first role after three long years and over 1,000 auditions. The surprising part is, I didn’t even have to audition for it.”

He added that this unexpected opportunity marked a turning point in his career and was a reminder of how sometimes fate plays a big role in success.
