Afrobeats megastar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticized Nigeria for lacking a true democratic system, in contrast to the United States.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, Davido expressed his admiration for American democracy, which he feels is more genuine than what exists in his home country of Nigeria.
Despite voting for Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, Davido said he congratulated Donald Trump after his victory, highlighting his respect for the American democratic process.
“I congratulated Donald Trump. Heโs the president! Thatโs what you do. If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him,” Davido shared during the podcast.
He went on to express his belief that true democracy exists in America, unlike in Nigeria, where he feels the system is flawed.
“What I like about America is that there’s true democracy,” he continued. “Where I come from [Nigeria], itโs not the same.โ
Davido also mentioned that his vote for Kamala Harris was motivated by his desire to see the first female president in his lifetime, calling it a groundbreaking moment he hoped for. “I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool,” he added.
