Afrobeats sensation Rema electrified fans at the third opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, delivering a thrilling performance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday.
The Nigerian star performed “Goals,” one of the songs on the tournament’s official album, alongside Brazilian singer Anitta and South Korean artist Lisa during the United States edition of the opening ceremony.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, with each co-host staging its own opening celebration. Burna Boy had earlier performed alongside Shakira during the Mexican ceremony, while Canada’s event featured performances from Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette at Toronto Stadium.
Rema captivated the audience as he took the stage in an all-white hooded outfit that matched those worn by fellow performers and dancers. The group performed in front of a giant model of the World Cup trophy, creating one of the standout moments of the night.
The ceremony also featured performances from South African singer Tyla and American rapper Future, adding to the star-studded lineup.
Elsewhere in the tournament festivities, Davido appeared at the opening concert of the World Cup countdown series held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. During his performance, the singer wore a jacket decorated with 46 green lapels bearing the names of the 39 pupils and seven teachers recently kidnapped in Oyo State.
The back of the jacket carried the inscription, “Bring Them Home”.
The tournament, hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, kicked off on June 11, with 48 teams competing for football’s biggest prize.
