Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets today to demand the resignation of Brazilian president, Dilma Rousseff.
The protests come a day after Rousseff insisted that she would not step down as she insists on seeing out the rest of her tenure.
Protests in Rio De Janeiro and Brasilia center around the country’s ailing economy as well as a corruption scandal in which Brazil’s former President Lula Da Silva has been implicated. A probe of state owned oil company, Petrobas, has drastically eroded confidence in Rousseff’s goverment as she served as Chairman of the corporation in the period where $2 billion was reportedly embezzled.
Impeachment proceedings were brought against her by Brazil’s lower house last year on allegations that her administration broke laws relating to budgetary processes.
