The Duke of Edinburgh has voluntarily giving up driving and surrendered his driving licence just over three weeks after his car was involved in an accident following a collision with another car.
Prince Phillip was seen driving another car two days later, and without his seat belt. The 97-year old was subsequently advised by police after the incident.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “After careful consideration, the Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence.
Prince Phillip was alone in the car when his Land Rover collided with a Kia driven by Ellie Townsend, as he drove out of an estate on January 17th.
Townsend, 28, suffered a broken wrist while her nine-months old, who was in the back, was uninjured.
In a letter to the woman, Prince Phillip apologised and blamed the accident on the sun, which he said was low in the sky. The Prince also said he was shaken by the accident but was glad no one was seriously injured.
