Sports photojournalist Pooja believes Nigeria World Cup stadiums do not currently meet FIFA standards for hosting World Cup matches. During Atlantic TV’s FIFA World Cup Round Up Show, he argued that Nigeria World Cup stadiums lack the infrastructure required for football’s biggest tournament.
Speaking during a remote interview, Pooja passionately discussed the country’s football facilities. He wore a red traditional cap and jersey while stressing his concerns. His comments came during a segment focused on global football infrastructure.
Pooja insisted that no stadium in Nigeria currently satisfies FIFA’s hosting requirements. He explained that modern infrastructure, safety measures, and world-class facilities remain essential for any World Cup venue. According to him, Nigeria still has significant work to do before meeting those standards.
Furthermore, he noted that only a few Nigerian venues, including the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, currently receive approval for top-level international matches. However, he maintained that those facilities still fall short of the requirements needed for a FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, his remarks have sparked fresh conversations about the state of sports infrastructure across Nigeria. Many football supporters believe the country possesses the talent and passion to host major tournaments. Others argue that government and private investors must prioritize stadium upgrades before making such ambitions realistic.
Additionally, Pooja called for greater investment in football infrastructure to match Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s biggest football nations. He believes improved facilities would benefit local clubs, the national teams, and future international competitions.
Nigeria World Cup stadiums remain a major talking point as football stakeholders continue discussing the country’s readiness for global events. Pooja’s comments have renewed calls for modern stadiums capable of meeting FIFA’s highest standards.
