For the first time in its 100-year existence, Planned Parenthood has decided to endorse a presidential candidate. The organization revealed that it would back the Democrats Candidate Hillary Clinton for president, cheering her support for women’s healthcare in a political environment that is hostile towards it. 

“Everything Planned Parenthood has believed in and fought for over the past 100 years is on the ballot,” said Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards and to prove her point, the House once more voted to repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood on Wednesday. The President is expected to veto the measures.

Clinton said she was “honored” to be the chosen candidate for the organization, adding that the latest congressional vote is a “reminder of what’s at stake in 2016.”

This why Planned Parenthood plans to spend at least $20 million in this election cycle on the presidential race and in key Senate contests. In the divisive matter of abortion, 72 percent of voters said that abortion should be available or “available within limits” nationwide. And Clinton has been unequivocal in her support of the organization. On social media, she is a fan of the hashtag #StandwithPP. And at campaign stops, she regularly invokes the work that Planned Parenthood does in her speeches.

Fittingly, Clinton will officially receive the endorsement at an event in early primary state New Hampshire on Sunday.
