Peller plans livestream with Wole Soyinka, promises ‘proper English day

Nigerian TikTok personality Habeeb ‘Peller’ Hamzat says he plans to host a livestream with Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate. He has promised viewers a session filled with English and discussions about African heritage.

Peller announced the plan during a recent livestream. He said he would share more details soon.

“I want to do a stream with this man that knows books for the whole of Africa, Wole Soyinka,” he said.

“I want to do a big stream with him. Don’t worry, I will announce it soon. I will tell you, guys.”

The TikTok personality also described the proposed broadcast as “a proper English day”.

“There is nothing like an uneducated person not watching that live because you’ll be hearing some grammar, some talk from our forefathers. Everything you will be hearing is there,” he said.

Peller did not disclose a date for the planned livestream. He also did not provide details about the format of the session.

Soyinka is one of Africa’s most celebrated writers. He won the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first African to receive the award.

The 92-year-old playwright, poet and novelist has published several books, plays, poetry collections and memoirs.

His notable plays include ‘The Swamp Dwellers’ (1958) and ‘The Lion and the Jewel’ (1959). Another early work, ‘The Invention’ (1957), was produced at the Royal Court Theatre.

Among his other works are ‘The Interpreters’ (1965), ‘Season of Anomy’ (1973) and ‘Harmattan Haze on an African Spring’ (2012).

Soyinka also published ‘Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth’ in 2021.

In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu renamed the National Arts Theatre after Soyinka. The move came during celebrations marking the writer’s 90th birthday.
