The Nigerian Bar Association, which comprises of all legal practitioners in Nigeria, has a new president after the just-concluded elections into the national offices of the Association.
Olumide Akpata emerged the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association after he polled a total number of 9,891 votes to defeat the two other candidates who are both Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
According to a tweet retweeted by the verified Twitter page of the Nigerian Bar Association, a total of 18,256 ballots were submitted which makes the 2020 NBA elections the election with the highest number of votes cast in the long history of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Other candidates who emerged winners into the national offices of the Nigerian Bar Association include:
Mr. John Aikpokpo-Martins as NBA’s First Vice-president with a total number of 6,010 votes
Mr. Adeyemo Kazeem as NBA’s Second Vice-president with a total number of 8,794 votes
Mrs. Joyce Oduah as NBA’s General Secretary with a total number of 8,979 votes.
Mrs. Uchenna Nwadialo as NBA’s Assistant General Secretary with a total number of 7,314 votes
Mrs. Mercy Agada as the NBA’s Treasurer. She ran unopposed.
Mr. Nnamdi Anagor as the NBA’s Financial Secretary. He ran unopposed.
Mr. Olukunle Edun as the NBA’s Welfare Secretary with a total number of 9,001 votes.
Dr. Rapulu Nduka as the NBA’s Publicity Secretary with a total number of 11,964 votes
Mr. Naza Afam as the NBA’s Assistant Publicity Secretary with a total number of 6,490 votes.
The election results were announced by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NBA in a live video yesterday night, which has been posted on the verified Twitter page of the Nigerian Bar Association.
