Olivia Rodrigo Scores Career-Best Debut as New Album Tops Billboard 200

Olivia Rodrigo has earned her third consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” debuted atop the chart, delivering the biggest opening week of her career.

Released on June 12, the album opened with 485,000 equivalent album units, the largest week for any solo artist in 2026. The project also benefited from 15 physical variants, while vinyl sales reached 164,000 units, marking Rodrigo’s biggest week in the format and the largest vinyl week of the year by a female artist.

The achievement extends Rodrigo’s flawless run on the Billboard 200. Her debut album “Sour” entered at No. 1 in 2021 with 295,000 equivalent album units, while its successor “Guts” topped the chart in 2023 with 302,000 units.

Ahead of the album’s release, Rodrigo built momentum with the singles “Drop Dead,” which topped the charts, and “The Cure,” which peaked at No. 5. She is also preparing for her international “Unravelled” tour, set to begin in Hartford, Connecticut, on September 25 before heading across North America and Europe.

Reviewing the album, Variety’s Chris Willman praised Rodrigo’s artistry, writing: “Her ability to explore the full arc of a relationship this well, complete with a bit of foreshadowing in the more cheerful numbers, is still more proof of what a serious talent she is, above and beyond her angelic vocal stacking and perfectly pretty snarl.”

“You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” was the only new album to debut in the Billboard 200 top 10 this week. The release pushed Drake’s “Iceman” down to No. 2 after a four-week run at the summit.
