Olivia Rodrigo has criticised President Donald Trump over his decision to cut federal funding for Planned Parenthood. She also vowed to keep supporting reproductive health care, saying campaigners “will never stop fighting.”
Rodrigo Joins Planned Parenthood Campaign
The Grammy-winning singer appeared in a dance video shared on the Instagram and X accounts of Daisy Chain Fields, her upcoming all-women music festival. The video used her song My Way.
It opened with the message, “Learning that nearly 30 Planned Parenthood health centres have closed since President Donald Trump signed a law ‘defunding’ Planned Parenthood.” Rodrigo and the other women then started dancing as the text changed to, “But we’ll never stop fighting for sexual and reproductive health care!!!”
Rodrigo has supported Planned Parenthood for years. The organisation honoured her with its Catalyst of Change Award in 2025.
Planned Parenthood Praises Rodrigo
Planned Parenthood Federation of America President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson thanked Rodrigo for using her platform to support abortion rights.
“It means the world to us that Olivia is so deeply engaged in the fight for abortion rights, especially when access to the care Planned Parenthood health centres provide is threatened like never before,” Johnson said.
“Olivia using her platform to work with Planned Parenthood goes so far in educating people about reproductive freedom and the essential care Planned Parenthood health centres provide and the ways they themselves can work to protect it.”
Rodrigo’s Earlier Criticism of Trump
Rodrigo also criticised Trump in June after the White House used one of her songs in a social media post promoting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“What they’re doing is so awful and barbaric and cruel. I am really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK,” she said.
Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act into law on July 4, 2025. The law ended federal funding for Planned Parenthood and reduced Medicaid funding. Critics say the changes have made health care harder to afford for many women.
Trump once spoke positively about the organisation. During a 2016 press conference, he said, “Look, Planned Parenthood has done very good work for many, many millions of women. And I’ll say it, and I know a lot of the so-called conservatives, they say that’s really … cause I’m a conservative, but I’m a common-sense conservative.
