Oge Elumelu has launched the first edition of the Africa and Everywhere Festival. The one-day careers and internship fair aims to help young Africans find jobs and career opportunities.

The festival was created to connect young people with recruiters, business leaders and professionals. It also seeks to turn career discussions into real employment opportunities.

From Podcast to Career Platform

Speaking at the event, Elumelu said the idea grew from the success of her podcast, The Africa and Everywhere. The podcast has completed two seasons and 20 episodes. It has recorded more than 60,000 plays across more than 80 countries.

She said the podcast helped explain different industries and career paths. However, she wanted to create a greater impact for young people.

“How can we make sure that it translates to actual, tangible impact in young people’s lives?” she asked.

Elumelu said the festival serves as a bridge between an online community and a physical network. She described it as a place where “opportunity can meet talent”.

Focus on Jobs and Skills

The event featured four panel sessions. The discussions focused on getting a first job, career growth, personal finance and entrepreneurship.

Organisers designed the event as a “speed-dating internships and careers fair”. The format allowed attendees to learn practical skills and meet recruiters directly.

The opening session on career development featured Toni Sanni, Sam Nwanze and Obong Idiong. They shared lessons from their career journeys and spoke about the experiences that shaped their success.

Advice for Young Professionals

A second panel focused on employability. Faith Nelson-Ojeaga, Yetunde Ayeni and Tomilayo Esan discussed what employers look for in graduate CVs

The speakers advised job seekers to keep their CVs brief and professional. They also stressed the need for relevant experience, a professional email address and an active phone number.

Later, Oghogho Osula of Emerging Africa joined Onyinye Osunwoke of United Capital and Ibi Ibru, founder of Money Start, for a discussion on personal finance. They highlighted habits that can help young people build wealth over time.
