The barrage of sanctions imposed on Iran following its uranium enrichment and nuclear programme have been lifted.

International Nuclear watchdog IAEA had certified that Iran had followed a deal to stop the development of nuclear weapons.

Iran faced sanctions from the United Nations, European Union and a host of other countries. The lifting of sanctions bodes well for the Iranian economy and President Hassan Rouhani described it as a ‘new chapter’.

The elated Iranian President wrote on Twitter, ‘”I thank God for this blessing and bow to the greatness of the patient nation of Iran”
