The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has invited former President Olusegun Obasanjo to tour the rehabilitated Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.

The company assured Obasanjo that it has transitioned from inefficiency to a profit-driven enterprise.

NNPCL’s response came after Obasanjo claimed during a Channels Television interview that Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) doubted NNPCL’s ability to manage a refinery.

Obasanjo said SPDC was reluctant to invest in a refinery due to concerns over corruption and described NNPCL as deceptive about the refineries’ functionality.

NNPCL Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, issued the invitation, highlighting the company’s progress.

“We extend an open invitation to President Obasanjo to tour the rehabilitated refineries and see the advancements made under the new NNPC Limited,” Soneye said.

“His wisdom and experience are invaluable, and his advice will always be welcomed.

”Soneye emphasized that the recent work on the refineries went beyond traditional turnaround maintenance, involving complete overhauls to meet global standards.

The Port Harcourt Refinery resumed operations in November, while the Warri Refinery followed in December.

He added, “As part of this transformation, NNPC Limited has evolved from a government corporation into a profit-driven international energy company.

This transition marks a significant shift in how we operate, ensuring that our refineries are rehabilitated and maintained to world-class standards.

”Soneye also praised Obasanjo as a respected statesman whose perspectives are valued.

“We hold President Obasanjo in the highest regard for his contributions to Nigeria’s progress. We remain grateful for his leadership and commitment to the nation’s development.”

NNPCL assured Nigerians that it is committed to energy security and delivering tangible benefits through its revamped operations and integrated energy strategies.
